Synthesis and Properties of Magnetic-Luminescent Fe3O4@ZnO/C Nanocomposites

A Fe3O4@ZnO/C nanocomposite with a core-shell structure was synthesized using the co-precipitation method. To prevent aggregation of Fe3O4 magnetic particles, polyethylene glycol (PEG) added. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) results confirmed formation and ZnO phases, having cubic crystal system hexagonal system. Carbon in had no effect on Fe3O4@ZnO. Images from transmission electron microscopy (TEM) scanning (SEM) revealed that formed structure. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectra verified presence bonds among ZnO, Fe3O4, carbon. appearance stretching vibration C≡C bond sample nanocomposites’ carbon coupling. Photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy used to characterize optical properties nanocomposites. Based PL, absorption visible light wavelength range 400–700 nm. photoluminescence Fe3O4@ZnO differed Fe3O4@ZnO/C, especially deep-level emission (DLE) band. There phenomenon broadening shift band at shorter wavelength, namely, blue region. Magnetic were characterized by vibrating-sample magnetometry (VSM). VSM results, coupled exhibited decrease saturation. changed photon energy into thermal energy. So, this material, apart being bioimaging can also be developed as photothermal therapy material.
